Neon Indian - Psychic Chasms
Joining one of the biggest tendencies of this last summer (blissful and fuzzy pop) with the biggest tendency of the last, hum, 10 years (eighties revivalism), Psychic Chasms is the first full-length from this project by 21-year-old, Mexico-born, Texas-raised, Alan Palomo. A short 30-minutes session of summery synths, heavy beats and nostalgia galore, everything would be too much of a pastiche, if it wasn't so heavily processed by an absurd amount of liquified filters, which end up creating a parallel and strange but still endlessly-warming universe. Basically, this is the result of having your brain fried by too much video-game soundtracks when creating an evocative record of innocent times. And that's a big compliment in my book, btw. (8/10)
