Robert Wyatt - Comicopera

After an accident in 1973 that has put him on a wheelchair ever since, it's almost poetic the way this guy still manages to create music that sounds so vital. His unique voice seems to personify sadness, but there's an interventive attitude that agitates things up. With contributions from friends like Brian Eno, Paul Weller or Phil Manzanera (Roxy Music), "Comicopera" is a conceptual album divided in 3 acts, all unified but with some subtle differences: vaguely, the first one is more intimate and willing to experiment with new forms, the second takes inspiration in traditional american genres subverting them while the third is an ode to all things hispanic, sung in spanish and even including a song dedicated to Che Guevara. Pay attention to the innumerous instrumental details, the complex melodies and how everything is so elegantly built and be amazed by how beautiful this music is. (8/10)
