Hanne Hukkelberg - Little Things
Describing a new sound using known references is a bit unfair, but still, in this case is quite irresistible... Imagine a cross between folk, jazz, electronica, tropicalia, Björk, lego playing, cosy warm places with snow outside, children games and a voice that used to sing in a church...and in a metal band.
I only came across this album by the end of 2005, but it has instantly turned into a favourite. Her name is hard to pronounce and her music is difficult to label, but this record is really one of those Little Things coming from Norway that make the world a better place.
The Science of Sleep
This is the title of the new movie from Michel Gondry, that premiered at the last Berlin Festival. After the brilliant "Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind", the cast of the new film looks promising: Gael García Bernal, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Alain Chabat, Miou Miou and Emma de Caunes. The plot seems quite familiar territory for Gondry: "A man held captive by the people in his dreams tries to wake himself up and take control of his own imaginings". If you don't know any of his work, a good start is to see the Directors Label DVD dedicated to him, which features the work he has done with The White Stripes, Beck, Daft Punk, Cibo Matto, Massive Attack, Kylie Minogue and, among others, 6 excellent videos that he directed for Björk.
Burning Palace
And talking about Khonnor...apparently he's soon releasing a new limited edition seven inch vinyl called Burning Palace, i'm really curious on what it will sound like, now that he's not completely unknown and he's probably recording somewhere else than his room (or maybe not). Either way, i already love the artwork.
Khonnor - Handwriting
One of the most special releases in recent times. It's like entering someone's private room and hear his thoughts, from trivia to no-sense to obscure-non-understandable-but-still-interesting feelings. I guess the fact that this was secretly recorded in his room, without his parent's knowledge, is one of the special-factors. Either way, a record where the word BEAUTIFUL really makes sense and one which makes me feel peaceful and happy while listenning.
